Greetings,
I am Ho-yeol Kwon, president of the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI),
the organizer of the International Broadcasting Co-production Conference 2022. 

First of all, I would like to offer my warm welcome to distinguished guests at home and abroad and all participants joining us today for the conference. 

I am particularly grateful to Mr. Sang-hyuk Han,
chairman of the Korea Communications Commission,
for his support for KISDI’s continuing organization of the International Broadcasting
Co-production Conference which is making progress each year.

Indeed, I am so much pleased to hold this event in person and to see all of you despite the difficulties that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to bring.

Global media platforms have served to draw global attention to Korean video content in the recent past.
Last year witnessed the success of Squid Game and this year’s Extraordinary Attorney Woo is another success story.
Squid Game, premised on Korean traditional games and social realities in Korea,
gained worldwide popularity. And furthermore, it made history at the Emmy Awards by winning the best actor and the director in a drama series. 

Moreover, Extraordinary Attorney Woo has encouraged the people and their families having 
difficulties with autism around the world, and the Canadian Tourism Office has expressed its gratitude for the drama.
Truly, K-content has become an essential element both in name and substance,
and captivates the eyes, ears, and hearts of people across the globe. 

The years-long COVID-19 pandemic has brought us massive challenges but at the same time,
taught us a valuable lesson: the significance of a global village we live in together.

On that note, the theme of today's conference, "Time to Meet and Create Again!”,
expresses the implicit hope of meeting and talking with people scattered around the world by crossing rivers, mountains, and seas.

The theme also coincides with the long-standing hope of Korea,
a historic upholder of peace and coexistence.
I believe that today's conference will provide a valuable opportunity to take you one step closer to that hope. 

With this in mind, the IBCC 2022 is made of many interesting programs.
To begin the conference, I would like to extend my gratitude to the two keynote speakers
Dr. Yu-yeol Kim, CEO of the Korea Educational Broadcasting System, and
Mr. Robert Franke, Vice President at ZDF Studios. Also, I appreciate the attendance of
Dr. Pirongrong Ramasoota, commissioner of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand, and the broadcasters from Thailand for 
the country of honor session. 

My thanks also go to the participants who have traveled all the way from Japan, Canada, China, Switzerland, Vietnam and Malaysia as well as professors and business experts.

This year’s we prepared for the two special sessions of roundtable discussions.
The first roundtable session has invited well-renowned experts at domestic and
international levels to talk about the reality and future of international broadcasting co-production.

The second roundtable will include three promising young leaders of Generation MZ at home and abroad to explore the future of international collaboration.

Today, I hope that the conference will be a meaningful platform for the inspiring first step into the future of broadcasting co-production in the post COVID-19 era.

On a final note, I would like to thank all our staff members at KISDI for their endeavors in organizing this event.
